Model Cels/Sheets

Main characters

This page contains original art, available for your viewing pleasure.
Not to be downloaded and reposted elsewhere online.

These were made for the animators for reference, to make consistant animation cels of the characters as far as faces, hairstyles, makeup, facial expressions, fashions, buildings, vehicles, instruments and more. Will Meugniot designed atleast some of them, and Barb Raush and Romeo Tanghal inked them and perhaps designed some aswell.

All of the model cels were numbered with the episode they first appeared in 5205-01 until 5205-66. 5205 means it's part of Jem, and the number after the hyphen tells us what episode it was designed for. Most of the cels featuring fashions, also had another specific number, for example "JR-16" means "Jerrica" and fashion number 16. Some were marked with "Song #" and a number, which was meant it was part of a music video, or "Sc." and a number, which referred to specific scene.

Shorts:
Jerrica = "JR".
Jem = "J".
Kimber = "K".
Aja = "A".
Shana = "SH".
Raya = "RY".
Rio = "R"/"Rio".
Pizzazz = "P".
Roxy = "R"/"RX".
Stormer = "ST".
Jetta = "JA".
Clash
Eric = "E"
Synergy
Riot = RT
Rapture = "RAP".
Minx = "MX".
Lindsey Pierce = "Lindsey Pierce".
Video = "V".
Danse = "DS".
Astral = "Astral".
Regine = "REG".

However, before the first five episodes were re-animated with some new scenes, they had the numbers 4041 until 4045. And the practice of giving each model cel a unique number had not necessarily began when the first five episodes were made, so those fashions that later re-appeared in the series, didn't get a unique number until then, and some were even re-designed after that.

Something funny I noticed is that sometimes they would use a previous model design and just redraw another fashion on the same body. And as for the animators, they sometimes used the actual model cel in the animation, because everything about the character and outfit is in the exact same position, like in scenes where Synergy creates a hologram of a new outfit over them.

If you have any model cels that aren't pictured here, you're more than welcome to share a picture by mail! Even if you don't want it displayed online, I'd very much like to see it.

Rio #4

Designed for the episode "Starbright Part One: Falling Star".

Rio as Holographic "Grade B" Movie Monster

Designed for the episode "Last Resorts", but never appeared in the episode. Instead another monster appeared, as a hologram over Rio's body. The monster that appeared instead bare only slight resemblance with this unused creature, with it's tentacles. An interesting note is that the monster that appeared, seems to fit better with the theme of the episode, a cave in the cold mountains, with it's fur. One might wonder why they originally drew a shellfish monster. Perhaps this episode originally took place at a beach and had another theme for the contest instead of skiing. They after all had several upcoming episodes featuring beaches like "Hot Time in Hawaii" and "Island of Deception" and no winter ones.
