These nine short public service announcements appeared at the end of some of the
episodes in the original airing of the cartoon. Christy Marx was hired to write them all
(although most of them appear after episodes not written by Christy),
to add some moral advice to the viewers. Each clip was set up the way that some of the
Starlight Girls, or assumingly friends of them (most of which never appeared in the cartoon episodes),
got into a troublesome situation
where they were faced with a decision of what the right thing to do is, and Jem and/or the
Holograms show up telling them what to do. Each clip ended with the line "doing the right
thing makes you a superstar".
Moral messages like this was common for cartoons of the 80's. Other Hasbro/Sunbow cartoons of the time, like Transformers and G.I. Joe, had very similar messages aswell. Other cartoons would make it a big part of the episode, or atleast towards the end of it. In my opinion Jem already had many great messages included in the stories, without overdoing it to the point it got too much, like some other 80's cartoons did, and Jem was good at offering good values already in the episodes (see the episodes marked with "Message" in the episode guide) aswell as in the songs.
