Movie actors

Although Jem and the Holograms are mainly singers and musicians, they do come across other parts of the entertainment business also, and even star in a couple of movies themselves.

Nick Mann

A famous Hollywood actor, and a ladies' man who always falls in love with his leading ladies. It seems he had almost planned a romance with Jem before he even met her, but mainly for publicity. Kimber and Pizzazz, keep trying to catch his attention. But he is completely uninterested in anything that doesn't earn him some direct profit, like charity, signing autographs, or being nice to anyone other than his leading lady. Of course Rio doesn't approve of the way he is hitting on Jem, and actually knocks him out. Nick might be a great actor, but as a person he's an egocentric coward. Fortunately Jem sees right through him.

He had Jeff as his stuntman.

The song "Jealousy" by Jem and the Holograms is mainly about Rio's jealousy over Jem and Nick. It plays out as a scene in the movie aswell as being true for the characters.

Liz Stratton

A very famous actress in her 50's who is currently working on her new mini-series, which is directed by Anthony Julian. After she fired her dress-designer, Anthony suggested Shana (this is what lead to the whole talent search and Raya joining the Holograms). At first she approves of Shana and the "elegance and boldness" of her designs. So Shana moves in to work at her big mansion. But more and more, her true bossy personality starts to show, she becomes a little too picky and concerned about her image, or as Shana puts it "she's impossible!".

She had no idea who Jem and the Holograms were.

Orange is her unlucky color.

Christy instructed the animation artists to think of Joan Collins when designing this character.

Flint Westwood

A very masculine actor who starred in a movie called "My Fist In Your face". His first meeting with Jem was infact a dressed out Clash, who threw popcorn over his head at his own movie premiere. But regardless of that, he appears of the screening of Jem's movie Starbright and reveals that he thinks Jem is great and saw her movie twice. He was even the person who announced the winner of best actress.

Obviously based on the actor Clint Eastwood, since he even says the line "Go ahead, make my day".

Meryl Saint

Actress who appeared in the movie "Victims of Vietnam". Appeared on the Harriet Horne show along with the other nominees for best actress. She asks Jem who her acting coach was, but doesn't take it as far as Geraldine does.

Based on the actress Meryl Streep, who was nominated for an Academy Award for best actress in 1981, 1982 (which she won), 1983, and in 1985 for her role in "Out of Africa" which she lost to Geraldine Page. She wasn't nominated in 1986 (but nine times after that).

Episodes:
Hollywood Jem Part One: For Your Consideration...
Hollywood Jem Part Two: And The Winner Is...

Geraldine Pathos

An actress, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her peformance in the movie "Heartland of the Homeless", appeared with the rest of the nominees on the Harriet Horne show, where she criticized Jem for being nominated without having studied with an acting coach and still gets to compete with actresses who spent decades of their craft.

Probably based on the actress Geraldine Page (1924-1987), although there's no connection when it comes to critizing other actresses. Geraldine Page was nominated for an Academy Award for best actress in 1985, for her role in The Trip to Bountiful, which she won. Meryl Streep was one of the other nominees. This was her eighth oscar nomination, and her first win. But her thank you speech was nothing like in the Jem episode.

One reason why the writer picked this actress as the winner, is probably to surprise the viewers when the presenter announces the name of the winner, which sounds like he's going to say "Jem".

Hollywood Jem Part Two: And The Winner Is...

Sigourney Reaver

He can't pay the back taxes for the opera house anymore, and the building risks being sold and torn down.
